The Expertise

This oil painting on canvas depicting a Cavalry Battle is not, in my opinion, from the hand of Salvator Rosa (to whom it was traditionally attributed), yet it is instead strongly connected for typological and stylistic features to Jacques Courtois called the Borgognone. I do not exclude the possibility that it may be from the hand of Courtois himself or one of the minor and small scale works largely produced in his workshop. (Luigi Salerno)
